Dunja Kukovec, born in 1975 in Ptuj, living and working in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Holding an MA in Art History, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Starting in the nineties, and all the way till the end of the new millennium’s first decade, I have been working as a new media and contemporary art curator, critic/publicist and producer. Most of my life I have been a freelancer, a procrastinating workaholic hardly sticking to a routine of the strict working hours. No matter how hard I tried to become a morning star I still thrive during the night. Starting off as a progressive visionary I continued my career within an amazing and generally emotionally rewarding, but occasionally overly frustrating collaborative art projects. Today I am very picky with and for whom I work for or collaborate with. I prefer clear resposibilities with time&place based vertical approach in any kind of working process.

Since 1999 I have curated, co-curated and organized numerous cultural events and exhibitions in Slovenia, and internationally. Selected projects: co-curator of the Belgrade October Salon (2014), co-founder of international feminist project Red Mined’s Bring In Take Out Living Archive (2012), curator of international exhibitions Get Together (2006) and Area Kolaborativa (2004) at Škuc Gallery Ljubljana, Coded Cultures (2004) at Freiraum Museumsquartier, Vienna, Share! Like a receipt! (2004) at Gallery P74 Ljubljana, international exhibitions at 12th and 13th Computer Art Festival, Maribor (2005, 2006), and Pixxelpoint festival of digital arts in Nova Gorica (2004). She worked as an interim curator at Manifesta 3 and as assistance curator of Igor Zabel (1958-2005) at the Venice Biennial (2003); in 2002-2003 she worked as an intern curator in the Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana. From 2004 till 2005 she worked at Cankarjev dom Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana as a project manager of LIFFE – Ljubljana’s International Film Festival and Documentary Film Festival.

One of the peaks in my contemporary art career was a co-directing the City Of Women International Festival for Contemporary Arts (2006, 2007). From 2008 till 2011 I was running the Association Igor Zabel for  Culture and Theory. I also collaborated with CRVENA Association for Art and Culture in Sarajevo, as well as with Sarajevo Contemporary Art Center, and was twice in the jury for the Zvono Award. As a ex-member of the Red Mined feminist curatorial collective in 2012 I had inherited MINA Institute for Socially Engaged Art and Theory in Ljubljana and a bit later on started off with my blog Dark Matter Bright Thoughts (until 2015).

2012 marks the turning point in my life also because my first child was born. In 2015 my second child was born. These great kids have two great fathers. The first one is an adventurer, ex university proffesor and a proffesional writer, the second is a philosopher and theorist, also a writer. One has PTSD and is a charming playboy; the other is a hardcore narcissist and an egocentric maniac, while I am cursed with mild borderline personality disorder meaning I am overly sensitive, and unable to control or regulate my emotions in the way I should. So you can easiely imagine none of these two great men could be a decent partner for me. Let’s say they are good fathers and that we are all good friends. That being so means me and the kids are immensly better off on our own.

Meanwhile or because all of that something happened. A curse of collective’s ill-communication, and a fanatic urge to educate myself on the widely available online educational resources, from physics, biology to neuroscience – brought me back to revise my individual potential and my personal passion. I formed an approach towards life and work which is not based on social and political critique or on any other dark and pessimistic view on life. My greatest challenge is an ongoing quest to love myself.  Previously this popular mantra was considered as a commercial  nonsense or meaningless new age trash, until finnaly I fall for it. Not in a form of the final act, but rather as a continuus process in which simply everyone wins, me and above all and everyone I love and care for.

According to reformated mindset and new belief system, and by gaining knowledge and expertise in personal training techniques MINA Institute and Dark Matter Bright Thoughts transformed into the Mind Navigation Institute.
